FG Strengthens Bilateral Relations with UAE

The Minister of Defence, Major General Bashir Salihi Magashi (rtd) has said that the Federal Government is committed to strengthening bilateral relations with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

Gen Magashi stated this when he received a delegation from the UAE National Defence College, Course 10 in Ship House, Abuja.

The Minister said that the Nigerian foreign policy which is Afrocentric has played a major role in providing Peace Support Operations to many African countries such as Mali, Equatorial Guinea, Gambia, Sudan and Chad among others.

The Minister remarked that both Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates have enjoyed a mutual bilateral relationship over the years and both countries are making efforts at drafting a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), such MoU, would be on Military Defence Cooperation in areas of Technology transfer, exchange of Information, Intelligence, Training of Military Personnel, Procurement of Military equipment, Platforms and ammunition.

The Minister who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana mni, during the interactive session pointed out that the familiarization visit by the National Defence College Participants can open more high-level talks that would culminate into a more reinforced military cooperation as a working tool for future collaboration between the two countries.

Earlier in his remarks, the Leader of the delegation, Brig. Gen. Mahdi Alahbabi appreciated the Minister for granting them an audience. He said that the United Arab Emirates National Defence Course 10 Participants are on tour to some countries including Nigeria to seek information on the activities of the Defence Sector.

The highlight of the visit was a digital presentation on Military Technical Cooperation between Nigeria and United Arab Emirates.
