FG TO FAST TRACK PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT OF DEFENCE COLLEGE HEADQUARTERS

The Federal Government is to fast track physical development of permanent site of the National Defence College Abuja to accommodate growth and expansion of the academy.

The Minister of Defence Maj. General Bashir Salihi Magashi stated this while inaugurating Course 28 of the College, today.

Gen. Magashi further stated that providing a permanent structure would allow for conducive environment for an intensive and applied research on Security and development challenges.

The Minister explained that concerted efforts in Defence education are alternatives to shore up the capabilities of the armed forces adding that” theme is to provide a focused, deeper and detailed analysis of selected elements of National security as well as development implication”; he posited.

Speaking further, the Minister said “this is in keeping with the roles of similar other establishment worldwide that serves as institutional safeguard, against National security development challenges”  

The guest Speaker and Chairman of First Bank PLC, , Mrs. Ibukun Awosika who  spoke on “Economic Diversification and National Development in Nigeria”, associated economic development to effective educational planning, arguing that education is key to successful economic planning.

”an educational population is an asset to any nation, a holistic plan is needed in the development of businesses, and when education is added, it boosts the peace and stability of a Nation.”

The Commandant of the College, Rear Admiral MM Kadiri, in his remarks said the mandate of the college is to impact, develop expertise and skills of Senior Military and Civilian Officers, through a firm understanding of the essential factors that have a direct bearing on national security and prepare them for higher responsibility.

On arrival, the Minister had inspected the Quarter Guard mounted by Sgt Bashir Sulaiman from the Defence College.
