The Ministry of Defence is committed to ensuring that synergy is achieved in organization and procurement process by the Tri-Services to enhance efficiency and sufficiency in the fight against insurgency.
The Director overseeing the Office of the Permanent Secretary Dr. Olajide Jonhson stated this when the Delegation of Vertically Integrated Logistic Approach team VILA visited Ship House, Abuja.
He said, “The Minister of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Salihi Magashi has consistently enjoined the Services to ensure synergy in operations because of his belief that doing so will cut costs while also instilling discipline and harmony.”
Dr Johnson explained that incorporating synergy in other activities of the services such as in procurement matters and joint operations in medical services will be cost effective, maintaining that synergy has no option because it is based on cooperation, understanding and sharing of responsibilities.
Earlier, the Head of the Team, Maj. Gen. Austin O. Okoh (rtd) has informed the Permanent Secretary that the Vertically Integrated Logistics Approach Team was necessitated to close gaps in the operations and procedures of procurement in the Armed Forces.
Maj. Gen. Okoh remarked that synergy reduces the tendency of duplicating effort or services during operations.
”In this direction, a document containing templates on jointness of the Armed Forces in operations planning, synchronization of procurement process as well as joint capacity development programme for the services is being worked out and would be forwarded to the Minister of Defence for subsequent vetting.” He said.
The Vertically Integrated Logistics Approach Team VILA comprised expert in defence procurement, equipment sourcing, operational planning and warfare activities.
