FG inaugurates Committee to review Nigerian National Defence Policy

The Federal Government has inaugurated a committee to review the National Defence Policy Document in line with extant laws of the Federation.

Inaugurating the Committee on behalf of the Minister of Defence, the Permanent Secretary, Musa Istifanus said the policy is an all-inclusive approach that every Nigerian has a stake in.

The Permanent Secretary remarked that in addition to the three tiers of Government and their agencies, every Nigerian regardless of status gender or religion has a role to play in the National Defence Policy Document.

“The essence of the review is to allow for the emergence of an all-embracing quality Defence policy that underscores the way forward in tackling the contemporary security challenges and proffer implementable solutions.”

He pointed out that the proffered solutions would address the unwholesome effect of Insecurity on the nation’s economy.

The Director,  Planning Research and Statistics, Ministry of Defence, Mr. Benson Odaman disclosed that the National Defence Policy was carefully structured with the primary concern of guaranteeing national security and protection of the nation’s territorial integrity against varied security challenges currently bedeviling the country.
