Accessibility

Accessible to every Nigerian.

The Ministry of Defence is committed to delivering a website that is usable by the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities. This site is built against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at level AA.

Built-in accessibility tools.

The toolbar at the bottom-left of every page lets you:

  • Increase the text size in two steps.
  • Switch to high-contrast mode (white on black).
  • Reset all preferences in one click.

Your preference is saved in the browser, so the site stays adjusted when you come back.

Translate the site.

The language dropdown in the top ribbon translates the site live into English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, French and Chinese (Simplified). Translations are powered by Microsoft Azure Translator, support English, Hausa, Igbo, Yoruba, French, Spanish and Chinese (Simplified), and are cached in your browser.

Standards we follow.

  • WCAG 2.1 AA — colour contrast, keyboard navigation, focus indicators, alt text on images.
  • ARIA landmarks — header, nav, main, footer and dialog roles correctly used.
  • Skip link — "Skip to main content" is the first focusable element on every page.
  • Keyboard-only — every interactive element is reachable and operable with a keyboard.
  • Reduced motion — hero slide transitions respect prefers-reduced-motion at the OS level.
  • Semantic HTML — headings nested correctly, lists used for lists, forms with labels.

Tell us when we fall short.

If a page is not accessible to you, please write to accessibility@defence.gov.ng with the URL and a short description. We will respond within 7 working days and fix the issue at the earliest opportunity.
