Ambassador Danjuma Nanpon Sheni, a seasoned Diplomat, was born 58 years in Shendam, Plateau State, Nigeria. He attended the Bwarat Primary School in Langtang North Local Government Area Plateau State for his elementary education from 1964-1970 and St. John’s Secondary School, Jos from 1970-1975. He later bagged a Bachelor’s Degree in English and Literature from the University of Benin in 1980. He obtained an M.Sc in International Relations from ile-ife in 1983. Amb. Sheni also attended the University of Abuja from 1999-2006 where he graduated with a Law Degree. He is currently running a Master’s programme (on-line) in International Business Law at University of Liverpool.

Ambassador Sheni has had a long history as a career diplomat with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which he joined in 1982, as a Third Secretary and Personal Assistant to the then Permanent Secretary. He was Project Manager, Peace-Keeping and Peace-Making in Southern Africa from 1991-1993, a project funded by the Ford Foundation and United Nations in New York. He served as Special Assistant to Under-Secretary, Regions and International Organisations at the Headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1999-2003. He was Deputy Director in charge of the Situation Room, Office of the Honourable Minister, and was Director West African Division from 2007-2008, 2009-2010 respectively.

Amb. Sheni has served in various capacities at Nigerian Missions, including Head Chancery, Embassy of Nigeria in Brussels, Belgium, Ag. High Commissioner, Accra, Ghana, Charge D’Áffairs A.I Embassy of Nigeria, Libreville, Gabon, Ag. High Commissioner, Nigerian High Commission, Singapore and Consul-General, Consulate-General of Nigeria, Hong Kong for many years. He has also served in the Embassy of Nigeria, Washington D.C.

In addition to his Diplomatic career, Ambassador Sheni has been involved in various activities in Civil, Public and International Affairs. He was a member of the Nigerian Delegation to the Afro-Arab Ministerial Commission on the Qatar Peace Initiative in Doha, Qatar in 2009. A member of the ECOWAS Monitoring Team to the Zimbabwean Election in 2008 and the Presidential Election in Ghana 2008, he was also a member of the Nigerian Monitoring Group to the Elections in Togo, Guinea Conakry and Cote D’Ivoire.

He was at one time a member of the Nigerian Delegation to the meetings of the Gulf of Guinea Commission in Libreville Gabon, Luanda, Angola, Malabo and Equatorial Guinea. He has served as a member of the Resolution of the Liberian crises ECOWAS Team in 2006 and member of the Nigerian Delegation to the Human Rights Council, Geneva, Switzerland in 2007, amongst others. 

Ambassador Sheni also led the Nigerian delegation to negotiate the allocation of hajj seats to Nigeria.

He was appointed a Federal Permanent Secretary by the President and Commander in Chief, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan. GCFR in June 2014.

Until his redeployment to the Ministry of Defence, in November 2015. Ambassador Sheni was Permanent Secretary, Career Management Office (CMO), in the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation from April, 2015 – November, 2015. He served as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs from November, 2014 – April 2015. He also served as Permanent Secretary, Cabinet Secretariat, and Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation from August to November 2014.

The Ambassador’s interests include reading, bird watching and playing golf. He is married with children.
