PERMANENT SECRETARY - MRS NURATU JIMOH BATAGARAWA

 

Mrs. Nuratu Jimoh Batagarawa was admitted to Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1977 and graduated in 1981 with B.Sc (Political Science). In 1982, after the mandatory one year Youth Service, she proceeded to University of Lancaster, United Kingdom for a Masters Degree in International Politics which she successfully completed in 1984.

She started her career in the Public Sector in April 1985 at the National Institute of Policy & Strategic Studies, Kuru, Nigeria (NIPSS) as a Junior Research Fellow. At the same time, she served on the Presidential Committees on Brain Drain and Restoration of Relationship with post apartheid South Africa.

In 1992, she was appointed Executive Director, Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria, a position she occupied until March 2003 when she transferred her Service to the Federal Civil Service as Deputy Director. It was during her tour of duty in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation as Deputy Director (Housing) that she midwifed the Civil Service Owner Occupier Housing Scheme for Civil Servants. She was promoted Director in the Federal Civil Service in 2009 and served in the Ministry of Police Affairs as Director, Police Services. She was subsequently redeployed to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation as Director, Employee Mobility from where she was appointed as Permanent Secretary on 10th November, 2015 and posted to the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation as Permanent Secretary (Service Policies & Strategy Office). On 9th October, 2017, she assumed Office as Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Defence.

She has attended various Leadership and Management courses both home and abroad. True to her training as a seasoned Administrator, Mrs. Nuratu J. Batagarawa has brought tremendous innovation, expertise and experience to bear in the discharge of her duties.  

She is married, blessed with children and enjoys reading.
