Nigeria is largest contributor to Peace Operations
Nigeria, until recently, has been the largest contributor to Peace Support Operations, the world over.
This was revealed by the Honourable Minister of Defence, Alhaji Muhammad Mansur Dan-Ali when the United Nations Secretary General, Special Representative, His Excellency, Muhammad Ibn Chambers paid him a courtesy visit in Abuja.
The Honourable Minister stated that Nigeria has participated in Peace Support Operations in well over fourty locations round the world. he added that the former President Olusegun Obasanjo participated in one of such missions, in the Congos.
Minister Dan-Ali said that Nigeria has single handedly bank roll the West African Peace Mission (ECOMOC) in Liberia.
He said that Nigeria presently has 3 battalion in Mali and many soldiers in Dafur, Sudan.
Alhaji Dan-Ali said that President Muhammadu Buhari has briefed the United Nations, the United Kingdom, France, the United States of America and his neighbouring countries in order to garner support in the fight against Boko Haram.
He called on the UN to prevail on multi-national cooperation's to come to the aid of Nigeria and assured that the menace of the Boko Haram terrorism will soon be a thing of the past.
Earlier, the UN Secretary General Special Representative Mohammed Ibn Chambers congratulated the Honourable Minister for a well deserve appointment.
He said that Nigeria is a member of the UN Security Council and is therefore in good stead to fight terrorism in the West African sub-region and globally.
He commended Nigeria's Peace Support role in Dafur and seeks collaboration with Nigeria in the fight against global terrorism.
He said that the UN Secretary General Mr. Ban Kimoon is solidly behind Nigeria and its neighbours in the fight against international terrorism as exemplified by Boko Haram.
He extends an invitation to the Honourable Minister to visit Mr. Ban Kimoon in New York.
