Military can tackle insecurity - Defence Minister
- Written by Femi Olowookere
The Minister of Defence, Alh. Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali has again assured the nation that the activities of Boko Haram insurgents would soon come to an end.
Delivering an address at the graduation ceremony of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 2015 in Abuja, the minister said that he was fully convinced that the Nigeria military was the viable tool in tackling national insecurity.
He stated that the activities of the insurgents in Nigeria will soon be a thing of the past and all areas under occupation will be liberated for people to go about their normal lives.
The minister appreciated the enter-agency collaboration between security services and called for more synergies in order to win the hearts and minds of Nigerians in the fight against terrorism.
Advocacies and other outreach programmes of the armed forces are aimed at gaining sympathies from the civilian populace, which is critical in degrading terrorism, he said.
In his remarks, the Director-General, State Security Services, Lawal Mohammed Daura said that in order to overcome the challenge that Nigeria is facing as a nation, there was the need for knowledge, which is why the Institute for Security Studies has designed a comprehensive review of the Executive Intelligence Management Course curriculum.
He noted that the idea is to make the course contents highly responsive to, and reflective of, the rapidly evolving character and nature of the threat profile. It is worthy of note that one of the key failures identified in the United States September 2011 (US 9/11) Commission Report is the failure of imagination, he added.
He opined that the challenges of our security services will be lessen when soft power elements, such as; intellectual and information sharing is deployed into our day-to-day security management.
He charged the 2015 EIMC grandaunds to be intellectually alert and to possess a mindset that is adaptive, resourceful, knowledge-driven and technology-friendly.
